Here is an excellent way to see what the current snow depth is and it is updated hourly:
Just type in the nearest city & state in the upper left hand corner and select local area snow depth in the left hand column then scroll down to the bottom toppo map and match the snow depth color chart to your specified location.Enjoy!January 5, 2016 at 8:53 pm #513JimDuCharme
If anyone is going to Huntington Lake this weekend let me know if you want to ride together.. I may be going.
Or, if anyone is going to a closer location to Orange County.. I may opt for that instead. Also, I am planning on a trip to Brian Head, UT for Feb 11th through the 14th if anyone wants to meet up there.January 6, 2016 at 5:52 am #514donbrown

8 Jan Friday 10AM to 5 PM
First watch out for at least 3 big ice areas on the 99 road up to Sherman Pass Road from Kernville.
First ice area at McNallys dining facility then two more VERY dangerous.
SHERMAN PASS ROAD IS NOT PLOWED. NOTHING IS GROOMED. 4WD or chains needed.
Lots of rocks on the road … no trees.
Snow / ice on road starts very early around 4000 feet.
Unloaded shortly after the 4000 foot sign with about 6 inches ice / snow. Yep 4000 feet not a typo.
Almost 2 feet at first Sherman Jeep trail turn off.
Well over 3 feet of powder at the “bathroom” and where the Snowcat is has been parked.
5 riders to Sherman Pass and the stuckfest began with over 5 foot of powder at Sherman PASS
Older sleds stuck all the time and the turbo was stuck a couple times in heavy packable powder.
Never made it past Sherman Pass so … pretty tracked up from Sherman to unloading.
When left at 5PM there was an enclosed trailer parked and connected to a white Ford Excursion but never saw the riders.
Best powder riding on Sherman Road I have ridden in many years.
NFS told me Thursday 7 DEC plowing and grooming to start Monday 11 January.
