Sherman Pass is a 2 hour drive from Bakersfield, and offers some of the finest riding in California. The parking area is at 7,800 feet, and the summit of Sherman Pass is 9,200 feet. The riding elevation ranges from 7,800 feet to 9,990 feet at the top of Sherman Peak, with an average trail elevation of 8,400 feet. There is plenty of on and off trail riding in the Sherman Pass area. The Sherman Pass Yurt, or warming hut, is about 7 miles in on the 101 trail in "the quarry".
To get to Sherman Pass take highway 178 east from Bakersfield to Lake Isabella. Take the Wofford Heights exit to Kernvill and continue North towards Johnsondale. Just past the large rest stop and bathrooms you will come to the Sherman Pass Road right turn. Follow the road up to the parking area and unload where the snow starts.

Parking
The main parking area has a turn around and room for about 20 rigs. When the snow is heavy, the parking area is moved down the mountain which makes turning around larger, four place trailers, more difficult but still possible. Always leave a wide area for larger rigs to turn around, and try to park in a narrower part of the road on the shoulder.
