First watch out for at least 3 big ice areas on the 99 road up to Sherman Pass Road from Kernville.
First ice area at McNallys dining facility then two more VERY dangerous.
SHERMAN PASS ROAD IS NOT PLOWED. NOTHING IS GROOMED. 4WD or chains needed.
Lots of rocks on the road … no trees.
Snow / ice on road starts very early around 4000 feet.
Unloaded shortly after the 4000 foot sign with about 6 inches ice / snow. Yep 4000 feet not a typo.
Almost 2 feet at first Sherman Jeep trail turn off.
Well over 3 feet of powder at the “bathroom” and where the Snowcat is has been parked.
5 riders to Sherman Pass and the stuckfest began with over 5 foot of powder at Sherman PASS
Older sleds stuck all the time and the turbo was stuck a couple times in heavy packable powder.
Never made it past Sherman Pass so … pretty tracked up from Sherman to unloading.
When left at 5PM there was an enclosed trailer parked and connected to a white Ford Excursion but never saw the riders.
Best powder riding on Sherman Road I have ridden in many years.
NFS told me Thursday 7 DEC plowing and grooming to start Monday 11 January.

JustinAdminThanks for those trip reports Don! I look forward to the forest services getting Sherman groomed. Sounds like we’ve got some crazy pow pow up there and I can’t wait to hit it up!

Special thanks to Cory , Mario , Rodney and John from Colorado.
John age 72 was IMHO the best rider I have seen in a while, very smooth , experienced and very helpful. He went everywhere the turbo went on a newer stock 800 Summit
I pray I have half the abilities of John !!!!

Sheriff from Search and Rescue was there when loaded. Very nice gentleman.

Sounds like Sherman is out until the groomers hit it on Monday. Is anyone going up by Greenhorn Sunday the 8th?

IMHO If you go up greenhorn on the 155 bring a saw to cut trees out the trail (or ride only a few miles in) OR go to Johnsondale and see how far you get before hitting trees on the trail
If you stay on the already ridden trail on Sherman Pass you should be okay cause as the temps increase the snow will get more dense. But I am sure the short tracks gonna get stuck.
