Well a lot has happened in the drone arena. The USA company was 3DR. They dropped the consumer business and are in the commercial business with the Solo drone and their software called SiteScan. The Solo is a very capable cinematic drone. They can still be found at places like B&H photo, Amazon and Ebay.
Most of the other companies are from China with DJI being the dominant player in the consumer and prosumer drone market. Their drones are great but they lack in customer services. Luckily there are many US dealers that can service the drones if necessary.
My favorite is the DJI Mavic Pro. I like the size compared to the Phantoms and Solo. Cinematically the Solo has the best software for great movie shots. However, the DJI products are getting very close. I have several 3DR and DJI drones and the form factor of the folding arms and props of the Mavic is great. The flight time is a good 20 minutes landing with about 20% battery left. At least that’s what I get.
The Solo is a very modifiable bird for the technical person who wants to play with the hardware and software. Many people modify their Solo with many upgrades. The DJI drones are more “closed” and not able to accept many mods.
Further research can be done by viewing the forums at mavicpilots.com, phantompiltos.com and 3DRpilots.com
I hope this helps. See you on the snow, and be assured my MavicPro will be with me to catch those action shots from the air.
Thanks,
Roy
